ECO-02 (English Community Organization Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean)

About ECO-02

Based in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, ECO-02 works to improve access to health and social services for English-speaking residents while strengthening the capacity of community partners. Its approach emphasizes collaboration, shared learning, and practical coordination.

Community Context

English-speakers in the region are concentrated in stable sectors like public administration, education, and health and social services.

These sectors do not align with the region's fastest-growing or highest-vacancy industries – manufacturing, resource processing, and tourism – which require rapid upskilling and stronger employer outreach.

Language barriers and limited sector-specific supports result in limited access to these opportunities, hindering the ability of English-speaking jobseekers to convert regional demand into sustainable employment.

COF-Supported Project

With support from the Community Opportunity Fund, ECO-02 is responding to these challenges with Enhancing Employability in the Saguenay, a program centred on:

  • Personalized counselling
  • Resume/CV translation
  • Job application assistance
  • One-on-one employability assessments

The program will also deliver workshops on digital literacy, LinkedIn networking, intergenerational communication, customer service, and labour-market awareness.

Meanwhile, they offer job-shadowing opportunities in high-demand sectors to provide crucial practical exposure, as well as networking events and a regional career fair to connect jobseekers and employers.

These activities are designed to supply the region's OLMCs with the skills, confidence, and connections to participate meaningfully in the region's workforce.
