MEPEC (Montérégie East Partnership for the English-speaking Community)

About MEPEC

Founded in 2018, MEPEC addresses service gaps for OLMC residents of Montérégie-Est by offering referrals, counselling, and connections to training and local recruitment activities, with an emphasis on practical navigation and regional collaboration.

Community Context

Unemployment among OLMC residents of the region has increased in recent years, with reliance on French-only systems creating frustration and disengagement.

This creates a marked disadvantage in a region already facing labour shortages, with immigrants and visible minorities disproportionately represented among unemployed OLMC members.

COF-Supported Project

Through the Pathways to Employment in Montérégie-Est program, made possible by Community Opportunity Fund support, MEPEC delivers:

  • Hybrid one-on-one counselling
  • Structured workshops
  • Ongoing case management

Workshops address resume writing, interview confidence, job search strategies, civic literacy, transferable skills, and digital literacy.

The program also includes career fairs, a weekly peer-support group, and networking events.

A central component of the initiative is digital inclusion, with MEPEC expanding its employment web resource and piloting an AI-driven system to collect and centralize job postings across the region.
