About Press Start

Press Start offers youth in Pointe-Saint-Charles and its surrounding neighbourhoods a space to build community, develop skills, and explore employment opportunities.

Community Context

In Pointe-Saint-Charles and nearby areas, English-speaking youth often face barriers to completing high school and securing stable employment. This is due to an intersection of marginalizing factors such as race, class, language, gender identity, and disability.

Youth may also encounter broader challenges, including housing instability and mental health needs, that affect their ability to pursue employment.

COF-Supported Project

Press Start is implementing Building Strong and Resilient Communities, an employment initiative for English-speaking youth, with a focus on serving BIPOC participants.

The project features:

  • Workshops exploring different career paths and building employability skills
  • Weekly drop-in support for CV development, interview preparation, and job search
  • Employer outreach with ongoing support for hiring and retention

The project combines direct youth support with employer engagement and a community-wide job fair, alongside referrals to complementary services.
